What is required for IP registration with MCLS?

  • If you have only one computer in your library that you want to have access to a product, report a single IP:
    • xxx.xxx.xxx.#
      • Example: 123.456.789.12
  • If you have more computers that you want to have access to a product (for example, your entire library or campus), report all of the relevant IPs, such as:
    • a range of individual IPs - a group of computers; xxx.xxx.xxx.#-#
      • Example: 123.456.789.12-17
    • a Class C range - up to 256 computers at a site; xxx.xxx.xxx.*
      • Example: 123.456.789.*
    • a Class B range - up to 65,536 computers at a site;  xxx.xxx.*
      • Example: 123.456.*

Please submit all new IP addresses, all changes, additions, and deletions.
You will be asked to verify the following about your IP address:
      • direct Internet connection
      • static IP (does not change)
      • external IP (routable)
      • dedicated IP (not used by any other location)
We can only register static, external, dedicated IP addresses to allow your patrons access from your library or school without entering logins and/or passwords.

**To report any addition or change in your library IP, please click here.

If you do not know your IP or if it meets the above requirements, we recommend you check with your tech folks, network administrator, or ISP (Internet Service Provider). Or you may go to: http://www.whatismyip.com    Write down the IP that pops up. Try this from several workstations and if they all return the same IP address, that is the external IP.

NOTE:  We are not able to accept IPs in CIDR notation.

The following IP address ranges are ALWAYS internal IPs and should not be submitted for authorization:
        10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
        172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
        192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
