MLC Board Member Ishwar Laxminarayan Receives PLA Award

The Public Library Association (PLA) has awarded Ishwar Laxminarayan, director of the Jackson District Library and MLC Board Member., a PLA Leadership Fellows scholarship for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.

The Leadership Fellows program offered PLA members who are public library managers a chance to attend executive leadership training at some of the best universities in the United States. The programs were reviewed and chosen by the PLA Leadership Taskforce because they focus on teaching management concepts not generally learned in a library school setting. This was the first year for the PLA Leadership Fellows program.

Fellows will be asked to share their experience at a PLA program and provide input to the Leadership Taskforce in an effort to help shape a comprehensive leadership development program for PLA. More information about the Leadership Fellows can be found online at http://www.pla.org/ala/mgrps/divs/pla/plaawards/Leadership/index.cfm.

PLA is a division of the American Library Association. PLA’s core purpose is to strengthen public libraries and their contribution to the communities they serve. Its mission is to enhance the development and effectiveness of public library staff and public library services.
