PALNI and LIBROS choose OCLC WorldShare Management Services
PALNI is first academic library group to select OCLC WorldShare Management Services
DUBLIN, Ohio, 9 January 2014—The Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI), which provides library automation services to 23 institutions, is the first academic group to select OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its cloud-based library management system.
"WorldShare Management Services (WMS) fit the strategic direction of our organization," said Kirsten Leonard, PALNI Executive Director. "We wanted to reduce the cost of managing our systems and collections so that we could focus on providing direct support to our students and faculty, and on new projects like institutional repositories. We are already starting projects that we have been dreaming of—our ‘wish lists.' We believe WMS will help us improve services for our users, with greater economy for our institutions."
Today, more than 170 libraries on three continents—Australia, Europe and North America—are using OCLC WorldShare Management Services which were released for general availability in July 2011. More than 110 more libraries are in the process of implementing the new services. Other library groups are using WorldShare Management Services; PALNI is the first academic group. New Schedule for Your Transition to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan
In response to requests from many members of the OCLC resource sharing community, we have extended access to WorldCat Resource Sharing through May 19, 2014. The new transition schedule provides additional time for ILL staffs to fully learn the new WorldShare ILL service while retaining access to WorldCat Resource Sharing.
| New WorldShare ILL transition dates are:
| ✔ End of placing new requests in WorldCat Resource Sharing: April 14, 2014
| ✔ End of access to WorldCat Resource Sharing: May 19, 2014
THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE COMPLETED YOUR TRANSITIONS FROM WORLDCAT RESOURCE SHARING TO WORLDSHARE ILL.
You have provided leadership for others whose transitions are in process. We invite you to share your WorldShare ILL experiences with others through an upcoming webinar or a written summary we can share on the OCLC website. Please let us know of your interest in helping your ILL colleagues by sending an email to ILLstory@oclc.org
OCLC will continue to add new features to the service, beginning with the next scheduled release in November 2013. There are no planned releases of new functionality between November 2013 and February 2014, to give you an opportunity to become more familiar with WorldShare ILL during a three-month period when the service remains essentially unchanged.
