Michigan Evergreen

Within the last week, the Evergreen Community has been abuzz, requesting
more from their conference, and the 2010 Evergreen International Conference
Committee is happy to report we’re able to make it so!
We’re  expanding  hackfest  day,  Wednesday, April 21, to include four
additional roundtable discussions.  The morning will feature an Authority
Roundtable facilitated by Shae Tetterton and a Reports Roundtable hosted by
Anoop  Atre  and Jenny Turner.  The afternoon will feature a Sys Admin
Roundtable guided by Evette Atkin and Megan Dudek and a Holds Roundtable led
by Grace Dunbar.  Together, these roundtables form our redesigned Sys Admin
and End User Hackfest.
And how much will these additional sessions add to your conference bill?
Absolutely nothing!  They are included in the one low registration price.
But wait!  There’s more . . .
We’ve lined up not one, not two, not three, but four developers for our Meet
with the Developers, also part of hackfest day.  Spend an hour chatting with
Mike  Rylander,  Bill Erickson, Bill Ott, and Dan Scott as part of the
Hands-On Coding for Developers Hackfest.  All of them will be together in
the same room at the same time–imagine the synergy!

Earlier this week, the Kirtland Community College (a.k.a.The College in the Woods) library received training on Evergreen version 1.6 by the Michigan Library Consortium’s Michigan Evergreen Project.  KCC will go live on Evergreen in early January, 2010.

Founded in 1966, and located in the scenic Roscommon, Michigan, carved into northern Michigan’s pine forests, the  KCC library is the first known community college library to go live on the Evergreen Open-Source ILS.

Kirtland Community College Library will migrate to Evergreen in January 2010, making them the first academic library in Michigan to adopt Evergreen.  Welcome to the Evergreen family!

Kirtland is working with Equinox Software, Inc., to install and implement Evergreen on the library’s local servers.  Michigan Evergreen staff Evette Atkin and Megan Dudek will train the Kirtland library staff on Evergreen OPAC, Circulation, Cataloging, and Admin modules in December 2009.

Grand Rapids to Host International Evergreen Conference

Grand Rapids, Michigan has been selected as the site of the 2010 Evergreen International Conference. The conference will take place April 21-23, 2010 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel. The conference is co-hosted by the Grand Rapids Public Library and Equinox Software.

Evergreen is an open-source Integrated Library System software used to help library patrons find library materials, and help libraries manage, catalog, and circulate those materials. The second annual Evergreen conference will bring together library administrators, front line staff and technology experts to discuss and grow the software. The conference will feature a hackfest, keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and lightning talks. Program proposals for the breakout sessions are being accepted now through December 15, 2009. Hello all!

It has trickled through the grapevine that there is misinformation floating around which states that Michigan Evergreen requires all items for a given title to be attached to a single bibliographic record, regardless of edition, publisher, etc.

Michigan Evergreen definitely requires a separate bib record for each edition/year/editor/etc.  One of the main requirements of our cataloging policies is that the item in hand match the bib record exactly.  If it is not an exact match, holdings cannot be attached until a correct bib record is located or created.

MLC is pleased to announce that Megan Dudek is the newest member of MLC’s Michigan Evergreen team. Megan will be responsible for providing training and support services to Michigan Evergreen libraries.

Megan comes to MLC from the East Lansing Public Library where she worked for six years in circulation and interlibrary loan, including experience in ILS migration.  Megan received her library degree from Wayne State University and her undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities from Michigan State University.

Happy Birthday, Michigan Evergreen! On August 4, 2008, our first pilot library, Branch District Library, went live on the shared open-source system. One year later Michigan Evergreen has much to celebrate, with ten forward-thinking libraries currently participating and more to migrate in 2010.The Michigan Evergreen shared catalog is open for additional libraries to join. We are now scheduling migrations for Spring 2010. To schedule a demo of Michigan Evergreen at your library, please contact Ruth Dukelow at MLC. Michigan Evergreen Training and Support Librarian

The Michigan Library Consortium (MLC) is looking for a tech-savvy, problem-solving, adventurous librarian to join our Michigan Evergreen team. Michigan Evergreen is an open-source shared ILS project, with ten libraries in the shared system and more to be added in 2009-2010. This position is responsible for training and support of participating libraries on all ILS functionality (OPAC, circ, cataloging, etc.).
