Steve Teeri

Steve Teeri planned, constructed, and manages the Secret Lab (http://www.aadl.org/secretlab) in the basement of the Ann Arbor District Library's Downtown Library. Previously he worked at the Detroit Public Library, where in 2012 he founded the HYPE Makerspace. Steve has presented about library makerspaces throughout the country, and has worked with organizations including ALA, PLA, Harvard University, and the US State Department.

Description

This workshop will conduct a survey of current library makerspaces around the country, gleaning useful tips and best practices. Discussed in detail will be the Secret Lab located within the Ann Arbor District Library, opened in September, 2015. Takeaways will include furniture considerations, the benefit of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and what activities are appropriate in a library setting. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions and share experiences, with a strong Q+A at the end.

This class will be online using WebEx online workshop software. All registered attendees will receive an email with WebEx login information a few days prior to the class date.

If you register after that, you must additionally send an email to training@mcls.org stating that you have registered past the deadline. You will receive a general email confirmation immediately upon successfully registering for this workshop. All registered attendees will receive an additional email with WebEx login information approximately one week prior to the 1st class date. If you do not receive an invitation to the meeting by noon of the day prior, please email training@mcls.org.

Technical Information

You must connect using a high-speed wired internet connection (not wireless).

Microphones are not required but your computer will need speakers and a sound card to hear the audio via VoiceOver IP.
