Dawn Olmsted Swanson is currently the Head of Technical Services and Metadata, Lead Librarian at the Kettering University Library. She has worked in the library field for over 30 years. Dawn has taught workshops for MCLS and other Michigan library organizations focusing mainly on cataloging and disaster planning topics. Dawn became a NACO Independent Contributor for Personal Authors in 2008 and for Corporate Authors in 2009. She has served and chaired many committees at Kettering University. She earned her BA at University of Michigan, Flint and earned her MLIS at Wayne State University. In her spare time, she is actively involved in her church as well as Boy Scouts of America & Girl Scouts of the USA.
This workshop will teach participants guidelines for selection of authority records, content and interpretation of authority records, and an explanation of each field, subfield, and data element in the authority record. Goals for this workshop are for participants to be able to establish correct access points for cataloging and to interpret the content and coding of authority records during this process.
Additionally, participants will learn how to create corporate and personal name headings with appropriate cross references, explanatory references, and source data information.
This class will be online using WebEx online workshop software. All registered attendees will receive an email with WebEx login information a few days prior to the class date.
