On April 21, MCLS presented a special program, Marketing the Public Library, to rave reviews. The workshop was held at our offices in Indianapolis to a full house. MCLS extends special thanks to ProQuest LLC library for their generous sponsorship of this special program.
Jennifer Pearson of OCLC began the workshop with her presentation on OCLC’s Geek the Library campaign. A number of Michigan public libraries have already joined the Geek the Library, and Indiana public libraries are in the process of registration and training for a statewide campaign.
Following Jennifer’s presentation, Kathy Dempsey of The M Word blog (and author The Accidental Library Marketer) conducted a hands-on workshop on writing a marketing plan for a public library. Attendees worked in small groups to craft marketing plans for library events or services.
