Dare to Dream! A Vision for Statewide Resource Sharing in Indiana

At the November 2010 Board Retreat, the MCLS Board directed  MCLS Executive Director Randy Dykhuis to investigate making statewide resource sharing a priority for our service to Indiana libraries. In response, MCLS submitted program proposals to present at the Academic Libraries of Indiana (ALI) resource sharing conference and at the Indiana Library Federation (ILF) Regional Conferences. Five of our proposals were accepted, and in March, Randy Dykhuis and Debbi Schaubman presented our first session on statewide resource sharing at ALI’s “Discovery to Delivery” conference.
During April and May, MCLS presented “Dare to Dream” sessions at four ILF Regional Conferences in Connersville, Michigan City, Lafayette, and Plainfield. These “Dare to Dream” sessions, conducted by Randy Dykhuis and Ruth Dukelow, raised the idea of a statewide, multitype, patron-initiated resource sharing system in Indiana. Using MeLCat as a case study, they outlined the possibilities for implementing multitype resource sharing in Indiana, including the “next steps” needed to begin the planning process.
