Are you interested in serving on the MCLS Board of Directors? The MCLS Nominating & Leadership Development Committee is seeking nominations from the membership for five openings on the MCLS Board of Directors:
Academic Library Representative (Indiana)
Research Library Representative (Michigan)
School Library Representative (Michigan)
Special Library Representative (Indiana)
At-Large Library Representative (Michigan)
Each seat has a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2012 and expiring December 31, 2014. The board meets four times a year, in February, May, August, and November, and board meetings alternate between Michigan and Indiana. The November meeting includes a two-day strategy retreat to review activity of the previous year, assess trends, and determine strategic changes to MCLS’ services. Newly-elected Board members are asked to attend the annual retreat (November 3-4, 2011). MCLS reimburses Board members for all direct meeting expenses. The MCLS Board utilizes the Policy Governance Model developed by John and Miriam Carver. To learn more about Policy Governance visit their website. New board members will receive an orientation to Policy Governance prior to the Board retreat.

To assist you in nominating yourself or other candidates, please read these sections from the board’s policy manual (PDF) for an overview of the board’s work and responsibilities of board members. Under MCLS’ Bylaws (PDF), only designated Member Representatives or alternates from MCLS member institutions may be nominated.
The slate of candidates will be chosen from the nominations and presented to the membership at the October 6 membership meeting. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor at the meeting. Please submit nominations using the survey form. Deadline for submission of names is 5:00 p.m. Eastern on July 15, 2011.
