Libraries Read: 1 Book

MCLS invites library staff of all types in Indiana and Michigan to participate in an exciting upcoming professional development opportunity! We will join together both physically and virtually to read and discuss the same book. With your help, we will select a book that is relevant to our profession, provides thought-provoking ideas for discussion, and has appeal across all types of libraries.

“We heard in our community conversations that library staff want more discussions across multi-types of libraries,” said Randy Dykhuis, MCLS Executive Director. “By reading one book together, we aim to create deeper connections among libraries that span geographic and other boundaries. By breaking out of our silos, we can learn more about each other and our profession.”

How this works:

  • Go to the MCLS “Libraries Read: 1 Book” Facebook event page and vote for one of four selected titles. Voting will remain open until April 4, 2015.
  • MCLS will tally the votes and announce the selected title on April 13, 2015.
  • Once the title has been selected, MCLS will announce discussions and other events related to the title that will take place throughout the summer of 2015.

What you can do to participate:

  • Vote for a title and encourage others in your organization to vote.
  • Read the book.
  • Discuss the book at your own staff meetings.
  • Attend regional discussions and other related events.
  • Participate in a live twitter chat about the title.
  • Offer to host and lead a discussion for other librarians at your location by sending an email to Heather Ladiski at ladiskih@mcls.org. Discussion questions will be provided.
