After 28 ½ years of working for MCLS, the time has come for me to begin the next phase of my life. It is time for me to say goodbye. I can truly say it’s been an honor and a rewarding experience working with a wonderful group of librarians in Indiana and Michigan.
I started working for the Michigan Library Consortium in 1987. Yes, I was just a babe. Little did I know 28 years ago that I would be working for a library membership organization that would be instrumental in helping libraries transition themselves into the digital environment. And to think I was working with libraries during this era is very gratifying to say the least.
Many of you worked in libraries before 1987, and I have no doubt could share some good stories. I remember the early days before the technology boom when libraries were purchasing CD-ROMs and computer towers. Oh how far libraries have come! One of my favorite office memories was when our staff hovered over a new fax machine and watched in amazement as we sent our first fax, and was even more thrilled when a new fax was returned! I also remember learning about the Internet and sending my first email. Technology will continue to change, and I’m certain that libraries will embrace the future changes, just as they have over the previous two decades.
I was asked what I will miss the most when I leave MCLS. I can honestly say I will miss the wonderful librarians and business partners that I’ve had the pleasure to work with for so many years. I’ve been overwhelmed with the amazing support and encouragement members have shown me throughout my career. I will truly miss working with all of you.
I wish you all the best for your future. I will miss you!
Sincerely,
Diana Mitchell
