Each seat has a three-year term, beginning January 1, 2016 and expiring December 31, 2018. The board meets 4 times a year, in February, May, August, and November, and board meetings alternate between Michigan and Indiana. The November meeting includes a two-day strategy retreat to review activity of the previous year, assess trends, and determine strategic changes to MCLS’s services. Newly elected board members are asked to attend the annual retreat. MCLS reimburses board members for all direct meeting expenses.
The MCLS board utilizes the Policy Governance Model developed by John and Miriam Carver. To learn more about Policy Governance visit the Policy Governance website. New board members will receive an orientation to Policy Governance prior to the board retreat.
To assist you in nominating candidates, read these sections from the Board’s policy manual for an overview of the Board’s work and responsibilities of Board members. Under MCLS’s Bylaws Section 4.03 , only designated Member Representatives or alternates from MCLS member institutions may be nominated. This is your opportunity to nominate candidates to the Board. The slate of candidates will be chosen from the nominations, voted on in September, and presented to the membership in early October.
