MCLS will again be offering, in partnership with the Library of Michigan, several training sessions on developing essential skills for library staff to facilitate effective conversations and meetings. These skills can be used in a variety of settings including staff and work meetings, strategic planning sessions, one-on-one interactions with library patrons, library sponsored Community Conversations, and focus groups. Training will be presented by We Can Work It Out, LLC. These workshops will include learning theory, as well as practice of skills and peer feedback. Because they are funded by the Library of Michigan, these trainings are only open to staff of Michigan libraries.
We are working now to reschedule the sessions in Lansing, originally scheduled for May, and to secure locations for the September sessions. Registration will be open as soon as possible, so watch the email lists and MCLS website for the announcement. In the meantime, we hope you'll save the dates and plan on joining us!
Our Group Purchasing Team is now using a new subscription management system coded by our Information Technology Team. The new system was launched to our members in March, and we’ve done our best to make this transition as seamless as possible. You will notice a more streamlined checkout process to renew or cancel your subscriptions, as well as customized renewal notices. We now have the ability to send renewal notices to more than one person at your institution. As with all new software, there will be bugs. Please contact us at services@mcls.org or (800) 530-9019 ext 401 if you have any issues or questions.
Join us on Zoom on Friday, April 17 from 9am – 3pm Eastern (8am – 2pm Central) for the Spring eResources Annual Meeting. Designed for member academic libraries, the meeting is relevant for librarians at community colleges and four-year colleges and universities.
As in previous years, vendors of eJournal agreements ending in 2020 will be present: Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science) and SpringerNature (SpringerLink). Additionally, the day’s agenda will include presentations related to Open Access. MCLS has invited organizations on the front lines of the Open Access movement to share; Reveal Digital and Unpaywall will present. A full agenda, with the day’s schedule, will be distributed to registered participants.
If you have not registered, please do so here. While not required, it would be helpful if you have a microphone (via headset or computer) to fully participate in the conversation and ask questions. The chat option will be available, of course! If Zoom is completely new you, please reach out and we will send you instructions.
We look forward to meeting with you virtually in April! Please contact Group Purchasing at services@mcls.org or (800) 530-9019 ext 401 if you have questions.
