With the conclusion of our most successful year of Bloomsbury Open Collections, MCLS is excited to announce the program’s fourth year! From now until Dec. 31, 2026, MCLS members can participate in Bloomsbury Open Collections: Year 4 program, a collective-action Open Access model, spreading the cost of publication to make a collection of titles available in Open Access. Each Open Collection consists of 18 titles with a shared subject focus including African Studies & International Development, Environment & Climate Change, and Gender & Sexuality.

Learn more at a live webinar hosted by Bloomsbury
Tuesday, April 14, 2026
11-11:45 a.m. Eastern (10-10:45 a.m. Central)

We’ll take a deep dive into how the model works, why we’ve chosen this approach, and the mission behind it. We’ll also explore the benefits for libraries, including expanded access to high-quality backlist academic titles, and learn how institutions can participate in shaping the future of open access.

The deadline for libraries to participate is Thursday, Dec. 31, 2026. If you have any questions, want a price quote, or if there is any further information we can provide such as title lists for frontlist and backlist collections, contact MCLS eLicensing & Collection Resources at services@mcls.org or 517-939-1382.

Snag discounts on Science Direct eBooks from Elsevier

We’re pleased to partner with Elsevier to support collection development needs and achieve savings on Science Direct eBooks, Reference Works, and eTextbooks. See here for more information about volume discounts, as well as subject collection and title lists.

Are you interested in an evidence-based acquisitions model? Elsevier also offers their EBS (Evidence-Based Selection) program.

How it works

  1. The library receives access to all eBooks included in the 2025 S&T Frontlist, plus four years of Backlist content (2024–2021), at a significantly reduced rate.
  2. At the end of the 12-month access period, the library selects which titles to purchase and retain in perpetuity, based on evidence-based usage and up to the value of the initial investment. Titles are purchased at list price. The library also has the option to continue EBS access with an agreed-upon increase.

Pricing varies by institution. For a customized quote or more information, contact services@mcls.org  or 517-939-1382.
