What is MeL

MeL is a statewide service of the Library of Michigan, an agency of the Michigan Department of Education.

The Library of Michigan contracts with MCLS and partners with a number of Michigan organizations and institutions to provide MeL services. Funding for MeL is provided in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library of Michigan.

  • MeL is an anywhere, anytime library for Michigan residents.
  • It contains magazine, newspaper and journal articles, books, eBooks, online courses and evaluated websites.
  • MeL can be used by any citizen of the state at no charge 24 hours/day.

MCLS staff provide implementation, support, and training for two components of MeL: MeLCat & the MeL eResources. MCLS staff also manages RIDES, the statewide delivery service. If your library is looking for ways to promote MeL, those resources can be found in MeL.org's Marketing Resources.
